I have been using the new SilverFast Printer Calibration software to produce custom ICC printer profiles and the results so far are impressive - the bonus is that you don't have to buy expensive hardware, your current scanner and printer combination will do just fine. The software is very easy to use so there can be no excuse for poor quality colour prints I will do a full review on the SilverFast Printer Calibration option over the next week using the new ????? printer from ?????? Kiel, Germany – May, 15th 2008 LaserSoft Imaging has now added Printer Calibration with ICC-Profiling to its award winning SilverFast Ai Studio product line, to deliver a fully calibrated workflow from input to output, which will benefit all serious photographers, from professional to fine art, as well as advanced amateurs and semi-professional users. Since the advent of digital imaging, the creation of accurate color profiles for printing has caused problems for photographers and digital imaging professionals. As a result, specially created, expensive and complicated tools have been required to measure printed patches. Now, building on their expertise in scanner and camera calibration, LaserSoft Imaging engineers have created a powerful, yet simple to use, workflow that creates accurate and precise icc color printer profiles, using customers’ existing scanners. The "1-2-3 Click" SilverFast Printer Calibration with Profiler is able to use its existing scanner calibration workflow to input to any scanner, while also using any existing printer for output - no other measuring devices are necessary. For customers, this means no more uncertainty about managing colors, and no extra expense for additional hardware and software solutions. Using LaserSoft Imaging’s new profiling technology, a "closed-loop" color calibration workflow, which is considered the optimum by experts in color management, is now possible. By following a pre-determined process, the LSI "Zero Error" workflow ensures complete color control from input to output. First, the scanner is automatically calibrated with SilverFast's patented IT8 Calibration and original LaserSoft Imaging IT8 targets. Next, using SilverFast, a full-gamut color test chart is produced, using the customer’s printer. This printed test chart is then scanned again, and SilverFast generates an ICC profile. This creates a precise ICC managed workflow for accurate color printing with the lowest deltaE tolerances, utilizing the full gamut of the printer for the widest reproduction of tones. Another key strength of this new approach is that it supports an extremely broad range of media, paper types and inks. One of the limitations of traditional color profiling tools is their sensitivity to many alternative media, which creative users are increasingly employing in their work. SilverFast thus allows the serious printer to experiment with printing on to a wider variety of materials.
